Dessert Sushi and Tuna Loaf and Love Rockets
Well, I'm one of those diehard Luke and Lorelei types. I believe they should be together. So this season looks to be a rough one for me. But still, there were glimmers where I believe that the writers are doing the best with what they were left with.
Such as...Lorelei being 'punished' by both Luke and Rory for what she did. She had confrontations with both that led to her finally seeming to realize the impact of what she did, that she's not the victim here. Until Luke told her that they never belonged together in the first place. That made me sad. Especially in the frozen food aisle like that.
But back to the other parts...Luke and Lorelei ran into each other on the street and his telling her "You proposed to me!" as a reason for him not caring about the break up was just right. I feel like it sorta woke Lorelei up to how she'd been acting like a victim. Just a little. The look on her face finally turned from victim to sorta intrigued by what his reaction was.
Rory, however, discovered that her mom and dad slept together and her immediate reaction was great and I think it delved into why - just why - Lorelei would never have done it in the first place had the previous writers not been struggling for conflict. Rory's rant about it as she tried to realize what was going on pointed out all the lessons Lorelei had already learned that led her to embrace a relationship with Luke in the first place.
I'm enjoying that Rory isn't being bratty like she was last season. She seems more like old Rory.
And the writers seemed to remember that Lane, not Paris, is Rory's best friend. That Lane, not Logan, is Rory's best friend and it was good to see the two of them together with Rory actually helping LANE out! Not just reporting some boy problem. That hasn't existed in years it seems.
Lane's reaction to sex was hilarious and now that she's pregnant, she's totally in the phase where she would think the baby is a parasite. The scene where Rory convinces Lane she is ready to be a mom, while at the same time realizing something about her own mother, was very sweet. It'll be fun to watch the Lane/Mrs. Kim dynamic as Lane goes through her pregnancy as Lane/Mrs. Kim has always mirrored Lorelei/Emily in storyline.
The Kirk creating his own diner thing was a bit silly. TJ didn't annoy me too much though and Liz finally called Luke out on HIS responsibility in this break up - he should have told Lorelei about April long ago.
But the thing that still bugs me, that really sticks in my craw if you will, is that the things that Luke and Lorelei are confronting and "learning" about each other are just constructs that the last writers threw together last year. The relationship of those two always felt more organic and natural than that; they didn't need silly plot lines like this.
But anyway, looks like Lorelei is going to start dealing with her mother issues coming up, which is a storyline that's been on the back burner far too long.
